VOTM: What's the most unusual experience you've ever had at a reading?
VIZZINI: The most unusual experience I've ever had at a reading was when I did a reading in 2003 wearing a burlap sack. I explained to the people in the audience that I write about teenagers and sometimes, as you get older, you can lose track of the sense of helpless mortification that comes with being a teenager, but wearing the burlap sack helped keep me in touch with this essential worthlessness (like Jesus). Unfortunately the smoking ban had just been passed in New York so everyone was outside smoking when I made this announcement, and then when they were done smoking they just came in and saw me like this.
Come see what Ned Vizzini is wearing during Y.A. Author Night at Vermin on the Mount on Sunday, November 7 at 8pm.
