Goodloe Byron answers the question: What's the most unusual experience you've ever had at a reading?
So, as far as readings go I don't ordinarily do them as it interferes with my lackadaisy and it takes some cerebral effort that I can't really summon. But a while back I was driving through Nevada and this fella from Baltimore emails me to ask if I would be on his talk show and I was very jazzed to do it. A week or two later it's October, I drive up into the Mt Vernon area of Baltimore and it's at this little storefront gallery place right on the street. I grab a box of books and loiter in the area trying to figure out what is going on with this thing exactly, there is a steady drip of disaffected youths heading into this gallery. So eventually I meet the fella, whose name is Ed Schrader and it seems like he and a bunch of his friends and the artists in Baltimore all get together and have a kind of do it yourself talk show every month or so. There are wailing musical interludes, eerie video installments an amazing beat boxer and stand-up comedy from the host. I didn't really know what to do, but eventually they told me to go sit on this couch, the host asked me some questions and I just kinda blathered and free associated, as is my wont. Even after the show ended a whole bunch of people stuck around and they formed a huge circle with the beat boxer in the center and people started doing insane dances, two people disrobed, and there was all sorts of carrying on. I just kicked back in the corner sitting on my box of books thinking “Wow, Baltimore is pretty interesting, I need to come here all the time!”
