The first chapter from my novel The Haunted Casino was named a quarterfinalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. What does this mean? It means that 10,000 entries have been whittled down to 500 and next month they'll narrow it down to 25.

Even if you don't have a Kindle you can download the excerpt to your smartphone and read it on the Kindle app, which is free. If you are inclined to leave a review, it's probably best to keep it formal and succinct. Apparently, Amazon is sensitive to all the negative press about paid reviews and they're on the lookout for improprieties. So "Jim Ruland FTW!!!" probably isn't going to help the cause.
What's The Haunted Casino about? Drugs. Gambling. Ghosts. It was inspired by my experiences working at an Indian casino in Southern California. I call it my autobiographical ghost story.
