  • “Jim Ruland’s stories are dangerous things, full of grim human comedy. His sentences power along with raucous precision and his characters rarely fail to surprise. This is a wonderful debut.” --Sam Lipsyte
  • "Here's a writer with guts and heart and vision, someone to remind us of the possibilities of fiction. Big Lonesome is strange and exciting." --Chris Bachelder

BATTLE OF THE LITERARY GLADIATORS

If you know me a little then you know how I feel about Sam Lipsyte's work. (And if you don't know his work, shame, shame, shame on you.) I am pleased to announce that he has graciously allowed me to share the stage with him on Friday, February 3, 2006 from 7-9 PM at The Happy Ending Lounge. New York funny man Tom Lombardio is also going to be reading. It's all part of the two-day extravaganza that is Opium Magazine's 5th Anniversary All-Star Gala and I couldn't be more thrilled. This hilarious poster was designed by the fiendish Steven Seighman, the man behind the monkey on the banana seat.
